It would be good for everyone to discover at some point in their life that there is no joy in hurting others. It seems to me that greed can only lead to isolation and the greedy miss out on truth and love. Thank God for technology like the internet.. It gives people with the truth a chance to tempt the greedy, especially when they see we're having fun without them! I think the answer is in the 'power of love' and the 'power of nature'. People naturally respond to happiness, even the ruling classes. Furthermore, there will always be leaders and followers and both will make mistakes. It takes the gifted ones like Mr Jones to light the way and inspire the rest of us...thanks mate!

Thought I would give justice to your words of wisdoms as I note no comments.... it is great to read your concerns of the current state of the world. I believe in what you write and I suppose I find it reassuring to read others with the same concerns. In the madness of greed and speed to consume with what seems to be a shift towards a decrease in moral decline and brotherhood, it is great that those of us opposed to the militaristic bullying of the greedy can still speak about truths (although there seems to be a growing suppression of freedom of speech). Like reading Hermann Hesse or Arundhati Roy or Gandhi, it is always so good to know there are some with social conscience! Now I know this site I will look out to see when you are playing next ...(haven't seen you play for about 15 years)... Dominique

According to Aristotle human beings are essentially social. Aristotle was a human being and he did not agree with his teacher Plato, who felt human beings were potentially social and needed tutoring, applied forcibly if need be. Marx was a human being and he quite liked Plato's ideas about "making" humans better beings,, he just felt it would have to be a different part of humankind to be exerting the force.

Reasoning creatures with very distinct hopes for betterment of our collective fate.

I too believe that man has a place in the universe and we definitely have opportunities.
Being an atheist myself the combination of creativity and planning strikes me as somewaht incongruous.

One of our major faults is, I believe, that we don't really feel the urge to stand up until the pain becomes unbearable.

It is as easy to condemn the West for pushing us towards a climactic crisis as it is to demonize Islamic fundamentalists.

The threat seems to be inherently human.

As for the "ruling classes" - they're simply your reasoning creatures, after all. By assuming a world wide conspiracy you are not doing them justice as frail human beings.

Throughout the history of our species there have been cultures rising and perishing. It is a cyclic phenomenon, it may be spiralling towards a climax. And I agree, it is painful to witness.
