This is the first recorded release by Vince Jones and his band.
His reinterpretation of standards such as “As time goes by” are refreshing, he seems to breathe new life into the old song.
This recording was praised by critics for it’s purity of sound and performance.
In this second recording VJ and his band again perform some beautiful standards. On “Spell”, Jones tries his hand at composing original songs. This recording is a finely crafted blend of original songs and standards. As one critic said “his pitch is true, his time is sure and his song choice is tasteful”.
This is the third album of songs from Vince Jones. On this album he paints with all his colours, from the most haunting melancholy blues to the most passionate scarlet. Half of the tracks were written by Vince Jones, further establishing him as a song writing talent. This cd is the most popular of all his recordings.

This CD was recorded in New York, the recording process was in three parts one day to rehearse, one day to record and one day to mix. Hence the title “One Day Spent” the ambiguity of the title is realised in the beautiful ballads. The players on this recording were the best available of the young “New Breed”players on the NY jazz scene. Benny Green, Charnett Moffat, Carl Allen, Dale Barlow and myself put together an elegant performance of these jazz standards. This CD hit the US billboard charts reaching number 14 selling over 100,000 CD’s.

This is the first all original CD ever from the VJ catalogue. This is the Jones band at it’s most evolved. On this recording he has added the wonderful rhythm section of Andrew Gander and LLoyd Swanton. The featured soloists are Dale Barlow and Barney Mcall. Once in a while you get Lauded by the critics. This recording was called a” Masterpiece” by the jazz critic Adrian Jackson. A rare occasion when the sound engineer producer and musicians click into an empathetic groove. Again a mixture of original songs and standards portaying the years work and exposing the artistry of the musicians involved. The standout track is the Jones/Mcall song “A Tribute Two”. A “best of ” CD featuring songs from the first to the latest CDs. A combination of some of the best the VJ catalogue has to offer.
We had been touring quite extensively and I felt it was time to make a live recording. I listened to the band playing live on my portable recorder and realised the quality of the musicianship was excellent. I was inspired by the superb guitar playing of James Muller coupled with the creative rhythm section of Simon Barker, Adam Armstrong and Sam Keevers. How fortunate I was to be singing with a swinging band at the Basement on a hot Sydney night and a room full of people. It had to be recorded.
The latest cd from the VJ catalogue. This is the current sound of the VJ band, featuring Matt McMahon on Piano,Simon Barker on drums Brett Hirst on Double bass. There were lots of songs floating in the air at that time and they were crying out to be birthed. I try to write songs of the moment but for the future. The standout songs on this CD are “We let Them Do It” and “The Parting Glass” The melodic arrangements by Matt McMahon give this CD a modern sound yet still the earthiness of folk. – Vince Jones

This is a collection of Vince Jones’ music on a double CD put together by Vince and SBS. I think this is the best compilation I could piece together from the one hundred songs recorded by the Vince Jones bands over the years.
If there was one voice in Australian jazz more recognized than any other, it would be that of Vince Jones. Our leading vocalist, interpreter, trumpet player and composer has entertained and informed us for decades with his ever-evolving elite group of musicians.
It’s been 6 years since the release of his critically acclaimed ‘Moving Through Taboos’, and for many fans it’s felt like a life time considering Vince’s prolific output in previous years.
VITAMIN RECORDS is proud to present Vince Jone’s latest offering, ‘Modern Folk’. This compilation of songs was recorded live by Mash Ferris, on different stages around Australia, at The Basement, Woodford Folk Festival, Stonnington Jazz Festival and the Byron Bay Entertainment Centre, as well as two live tracks recorded at 301 in Sydney by Dave Nichols.
“A musician paints his or her life with the music they play. Each song a colour, each album a painting, reflecting the thoughts and experiences of that time. I have tried to make as beautiful and evocative music as I possibly could, and will keep this philosophy in the forthcoming music. You can only hope all the work you’ve produced will combine to make as honest a self portrait as you can possibly make,” says Vince Jones.
Vince Jones’ music includes original songs and beautiful contemporary versions of jazz standards. His themes are often love, injustice, peace and anti-greed. The heart of Vince’s work lies at the crossroads of Afro-American blues and the melodies of the Celtic folk tradition. The songs he chooses – written by him or by others – always make an original, personal statement.

Simon Barker – Drums

Provenance is the new album from two legends of Australian music – a survey of intimate ballads that showcases the superlative craftsmanship of platinum-selling legendary singer Vince Jones and multi-ARIA-winning pianist Paul Grabowsky.
The title refers to the returning-to-roots that this album represents. Vince and Paul first worked together in the 1980s, when Grabowsky was music director to Jones; Provenance marks a renewed collaboration between the pair after several decades apart. But the word also describes the music which the duo chose to record: ballads that showcase the essential elements of their craft, elements that have been the foundations of their astonishing careers, pared down to the intimate combination of piano and voice (and occasionally piano and flumpet – a hybrid of trumpet and flugelhorn).
Provenance is “a collection of timeless songs with beautiful melodies”, as Vince puts it. The album begins with ‘Rainbow Cake’, composed by the pair in the 1980s. ‘Oh My Love’, written by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, takes on touching poignancy in this new rendition; and from there the album presents classic songs from a variety of genres as well as a number of Vince’s own compositions.
